Introduction: Discover Art Beyond the Ordinary

Art is more than an object displayed on a wall. It is a way of expressing identity, preserving stories, exploring ideas and connecting people through creativity. Across Kenya and the wider African continent, artists are redefining how culture, contemporary life and individual experiences are represented through visual art.

ARTSASA is a contemporary art gallery based in Nairobi, Kenya, dedicated to connecting people with art and the artists behind it. Through its collection, artist profiles, exhibitions and journal, ARTSASA creates opportunities for art enthusiasts, collectors and curious visitors to discover contemporary Kenyan art and engage with African creativity.

Whether you are searching for a Nairobi art gallery, exploring the work of Kenyan artists or looking to discover original African artwork, ARTSASA offers a starting point for a more meaningful relationship with art.

What Makes ARTSASA Different?

ARTSASA is built around the belief that art should be experienced, explored and appreciated by a broad audience. Every encounter with an artwork presents an opportunity to discover a new perspective, question an assumption or connect with a story.

Our approach brings together three important elements: artists, their work and the audiences who experience it.

Celebrating Kenyan Artists

Kenya has a diverse and evolving artistic community. Painters, sculptors and other visual artists explore subjects ranging from personal identity and everyday life to cultural heritage, imagination and contemporary social experiences.

ARTSASA celebrates this creative diversity by providing a platform for discovering artists and learning more about their work. Through artist features and curated content, we aim to make the stories behind contemporary Kenyan art more accessible.

Exploring Contemporary African Art

Contemporary African art encompasses a wide range of artistic practices, materials, ideas and visual languages. It cannot be reduced to a single style or interpretation.

From expressive painting and sculpture to experimental approaches to visual storytelling, African artists contribute to conversations that extend far beyond geographical boundaries.

At ARTSASA, we encourage audiences to approach each artwork with curiosity and an open mind, appreciating both its visual qualities and the different meanings it may hold.

Connecting Art with Collectors and Enthusiasts

Discovering artwork can be an exciting process, whether you are an experienced collector or purchasing your first original piece.

ARTSASA aims to help audiences explore available artworks, learn about artists and discover creative work that resonates with their interests. For prospective collectors, engaging with an artwork involves considering its subject, materials, scale, presentation and personal significance.

Our goal is to make discovering art a thoughtful and rewarding experience.

Why Contemporary Kenyan Art Matters

Contemporary Kenyan art offers a window into the ideas, experiences and perspectives shaping life in Kenya today.

Artists interpret their surroundings in different ways, using colour, form, texture and composition to communicate ideas that may be personal, cultural, historical or imaginative. Their work contributes to a wider understanding of Kenyan identity while allowing room for experimentation and individual expression.

Supporting Kenyan artists also helps sustain the country's creative economy. Collectors, galleries, cultural organisations and art enthusiasts all contribute to an environment in which artistic talent can develop and reach new audiences.

By discovering local artists and engaging with their work, audiences can participate in a growing conversation about creativity, culture and the future of African art.

How to Choose Artwork for Your Home or Collection

Choosing artwork is a personal process. The right piece may be one that complements your interior, introduces a new perspective or creates an emotional connection.

If you are exploring original artwork in Kenya, consider the following factors.

1. Choose art that resonates with you. Think about the emotions, ideas or memories you want an artwork to evoke. Personal connection can be more meaningful than following a temporary trend.

2. Consider the space. Look at the dimensions of your wall, lighting conditions, surrounding furniture and the scale of the artwork. A well-positioned piece can become a focal point without overwhelming the room.

3. Explore different artistic styles. Painting, sculpture and other visual art forms offer different ways of experiencing creativity. Take time to discover artists and approaches you may not have encountered before.

4. Learn about the artist. Understanding an artist's practice and the context surrounding a work can deepen your appreciation of it.

5. Ask about availability and purchasing details. If you find a piece you are interested in, confirm its availability, price, dimensions, materials and delivery arrangements directly with the gallery.

At ARTSASA, exploring art begins with curiosity and develops through meaningful engagement with the work.
